Last Words: Dependance

We are in our sermon series, "Last Words." I came up with the series idea and then found out in a Google search that another AG church had did the same series two years ago and had a great logo to go with it.

We are looking at the last word of Jesus. Seven statements from the cross that sum up his entire life and mission. We are looking at them thematically. The four themes are surrender, dependence, mission and victory.

This week we looked at dependence. Jesus was fully human on the cross. He felt abandon and had emotional struggles ("...why have you forsaken me?"), he had human responsibilities and relationships that he kept to the end ("...here is your mother..."). He had physical pain and discomfort like any human would in his situation ("I am thirsty.").

In the face of these difficulties which are similar to the feelings of abandonment, emotional struggles and pain that we face Jesus was fully dependant on his Heavenly Father to fulfill his mission and be obedient to God.

Even on the cross we see that Jesus was fully man. He did not use his divine prerogatives to cheat his way out of the difficult responsibility God gave him. He was dependant on his Heavenly Father for strength and help.

God loves you no less. He is available for you today. Remain dependant on him.
