I heard a great teaching today on the spirit of the elder brother from the parable of the prodigal son. It was so good that I may consider creating a series on the topic for our church in the near future. It was shared by Dary Northrup from Timberline Church in Fort Collins.
I preached a message similar to it a few years ago that was based on a chapter in the book Jesus the Jewish Theologian. The chapter was called, The Loving Father and His Two Lost Sons. The elder son had faults that were meant as warnings to the religious people who had lost their ability to grant grace and mercy to those who are in need.
